The Cuban
Media Noche

History

The famous and beloved Medianoche Sandwich ("midnight" in Spanish) is a type of sandwich which originated in Cuba. It is so named because of the sandwich's popularity as a staple served in Havana's nightclubs right around or after midnight. It is believed that the first medianoche was invented in Havana around the year 1900 by late-night workers.

A medianoche is exactly the same as a Cuban Sandwich except for the bread. It consists of Cuban roast pork, ham, mustard, Swiss cheese, and sweet pickles all served within a soft, sweet egg dough bread similar to Challah.
